While Google Fonts provide a wide variety of choices, there may be situations where you want more control over how they’re used, especially for improving performance or ensuring compliance with privacy regulations like GDPR.
Why Customize or Disable Google Fonts?
There are a few common reasons to change how Google Fonts are loaded:
Improving Site Performance – Removing external font requests can slightly reduce load times.
Ensuring GDPR Compliance – Some regions restrict the use of third-party services that collect user data, such as fonts.googleapis.com.
Using Self-Hosted Fonts – Hosting fonts locally ensures no data is sent to Google servers, while still preserving your chosen typography.
Inspiro Premium offers built-in options to help you manage fonts in a way that’s both flexible and privacy-conscious.
Managing Google Fonts in Theme Options
To access the Google Fonts settings, go to WPZOOM → Theme Options → Miscellaneous → Google Fonts
You’ll find three options:
1. Disable and Remove Google Fonts Globally
Enable this option to completely remove Google Fonts from your theme.
This ensures that no fonts are loaded from Google servers, helping your website meet GDPR requirements.
Your site will use system fonts as a fallback.
Removing Google Fonts may also improve your site’s PageSpeed score.
2. Download & Host Google Fonts Locally
Enable this option to download the Google Fonts used by your theme and serve them from your own server.
This approach maintains your current font choices while ensuring no user data is sent to Google.
Once enabled, Inspiro will automatically detect the fonts in use and download them for local hosting.
This option offers the best balance of custom typography and GDPR compliance.
